Infidelity DNA and Fake News
The internet is full of wild claims about infidelity DNA testing. Some sound scientific, but most have no basis in reality. At Validity Genetics, we believe in transparency and accuracy. So let’s bust some of the most persistent myths that just won’t go away.
Myth #1: “Can You Test My Partner to See Who They've Slept With?”
Truth: This is one of the most frequently asked (and misunderstood) questions. There is no DNA test that can tell you who someone has slept with. Human bodies do not store a record of past sexual partners' DNA.
Despite a viral myth, especially targeting women, the body does not absorb or retain DNA from previous sexual partners. The only DNA present in someone’s body is their own (with rare exceptions like pregnancy or organ transplants). Infidelity DNA tests analyze items like condoms, clothing or bedding for foreign DNA, not people. Our Advanced Infidelity Test can help with this.
Myth #2: DNA Can Tell How Many People Someone Has Slept With
Truth: DNA tests don’t work like a sexual history report. They can only identify whether specific DNA is present on a submitted item. Without a reference sample to compare against, the test will simply show unknown DNA profiles.
You can’t test a person’s body to find out how many partners they’ve had. That’s simply not how DNA, or biology, works.
Myth #3: DNA Tests Prove Cheating
Truth: Infidelity DNA testing only shows whether foreign DNA is found on an object. It can’t determine how the DNA got there or prove intent. It’s a piece of the puzzle, not a final verdict.
Myth #4: Women Absorb DNA From their Sexual PartnerS
Truth: This myth exploded online but is completely false. Women do not store DNA from every man they've had sex with. The claim originated from a misunderstood study on fetal microchimerism and has nothing to do with sexual partners.
Myth #5: DNA Testing Works Instantly
Truth: Infidelity testing involves sensitive forensic analysis and typically takes 5–7 business days after the lab receives the sample.
Most Asked Questions We Hear at Validity Genetics
Q: Can I test my partner’s body for other people's DNA?
A: No. DNA testing is done on physical items (underwear, condoms, bedding). It cannot test someone’s body for past partners.
Q: What if multiple DNA profiles are found?
A: The test will report all DNA profiles found. If you submit a reference sample, the lab can compare it to those profiles to confirm or exclude matches.
Q: Can I test something without them knowing?
A: Labs operate under implied consent for non-standard sample testing. Yes you can include a sample of your partners DNA (Example: their toothbrush). Do note that you’re responsible for following local laws.
