Forensic Twin DNA Test
Identical or Fraternal Twins
Determine Whether Twins Are Identical or Fraternal Using Forensic DNA Samples
Starting at $259
Our Forensic Twin DNA Test determines whether two individuals are identical (monozygotic) or fraternal (dizygotic) twins using DNA recovered from personal items or other non-standard samples.
This test is ideal when one or both individuals are unavailable for traditional cheek swab collection. Common forensic samples include toothbrushes (recommended), hair with roots, razors, dried bloodstains, and other personal belongings.
Our standard test includes DNA analysis for two individuals.
What Does the Forensic Twin DNA Test Determine?
Our laboratory compares DNA profiles to determine whether the individuals are:
Identical Twins (Monozygotic): Twins who originate from the same fertilized egg and generally have matching DNA profiles at the markers examined.
Fraternal Twins (Dizygotic): Twins who originate from separate fertilized eggs and typically have different DNA profiles, similar to other full biological siblings.
Please note: Standard DNA testing generally cannot distinguish one identical twin from the other.

Important Information About Forensic DNA Testing
Due to the nature of forensic DNA samples, a conclusive result cannot be guaranteed.
Samples may contain insufficient, degraded, or mixed DNA, which can prevent the laboratory from obtaining a usable DNA profile.
Unsuccessful DNA extraction or inconclusive results do not automatically qualify for a retest or refund. Please review our Refund and Cancellation Policy before ordering.
Legal Testing: This informational test is not intended for court use. If you require testing for legal purposes, please consult an attorney before ordering.
